Ecotourism
Chrak-Laeang is a pristine area of forest home to one of Cambodia's most picturesque waterfalls.
Visitors can swim or slide down the cascades, swim around the waterfall or relax in a calmer 2km stretch of water. Chrak-Laeang provides a popular day trip for Cambodian tourists from neighbouring towns, from the city of Phnom Penh as well as for international visitors.
It is located adjacent to the Phnom Aural Wildlife Sanctuary, part of the Cardamom Mountain range in western Cambodia and can be easily reached from the city of Pursat .
EPDO supports this resort as a ecotourism project. It provides local communities with occupations as well as repecting the natural beauty of the surrounding Cardamom Mountain range.
Program Aims:
- manage the Chrak-Laeany forest as a tourist destination through a village committee
- improve capacity of communities through training and coaching
- provide sustainable jobs e.g. through souvenir training
- promote managable tourism
- protect the environment by;
- eliminating illegal forest cutting
- educating communities to build support for habitat protection
Objectives:
- 40-familiy target groups will have skills in producing souvenirs and will be able to supply and sell inside or outside the areas.
- To increase the capacity of Eco-tourism Management Committees to operate and extend tourism services throughout the communities.
- At the end of the project, all facilities planned will be installed to improve local community based Eco-tourism conditions.
- Develope the network and strengthening partnership with CC, publishing institutions and social and private fields to improve the Eco-tourism management.
- 120 poor family will be received training and additional assistance to initiate investment related small scale businesses

Background
Environmental Protection and Development Organization, EPDO, is a non government / nonprofit organization which is not related to politics or any political party. EPDO was established in 1998 in order to take action in the face of negative natural resource management and environment. EPDO was also setup to improve the livelihoods of the poor and vulnerable in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
