Pursat ProvincePursat province is the fourth largest province in Cambodia; its population is just under 400,000 people. Pursat is situated in the west of Cambodia and is well known for its marble carvings and for being home to a large area of the cardamom mountain range and national park. The latter is at the forefront of a conservation war between environmental groups and illicit mining and logging operations. At EPDO we are doing our part to educate communities and offer sustainable ecotourism and forestry projects in the hope that this will alleviate damage and raise community awareness to the plight of this beautiful region.
The Capital of Pursat province is the town of Pursat, a quiet and traditional riverside town with freindly locals, Pursat appeals to those looking to stray from the beaten path and discover rural Cambodia. The town can also act as a base for exploring the stunning surroundings of the cardamom mountain range.
The majority of locals in Pursat province rely heavily on agriculture, mainly rice and fish farming, for their livelihoods. Drought and irregular rainfall possibly as a result of climate change are becoming a real problem for the farmers of Pursat and indeed for farmers throughout Cambodia. Another pressing issue facing the farmers of Pursat is the use of outdated and extremely hazardous pesticides. EPDO is working with local communes helping to educate and find sustainable, ecologically and financially viable solutions to these problems.
